Page Numbering Rules (Common Cause for Revisions)

Page Number Layout:
  • Preliminary Section: Uses lowercase Roman numerals (i, ii, iii, etc.) positioned bottom-center, 1 cm from the bottom edge.
  • Main & Final Section: Uses Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3, etc.) positioned bottom-center, 1 cm from the bottom edge.
Important Word Tip:

Use a Section Break (Next Page) in Microsoft Word between the Preliminary Section and the Main Section, and ensure that the Link to Previous option is disabled to keep pagination from breaking.

Chapter IV Findings & Discussion: Detailed presentation of findings field-tested and synthesized back against theories in Chapter II.

Chapter V Conclusion: Summary of findings (answering research questions), implications, and operational suggestions.

3 Final Section (References & Appendices)

Must be sorted alphabetically following the APA 7th Edition guidelines.

Appendices:

Research instruments, statistical analysis, permits, and the Researcher's Bio must be placed at the very end.

Maximum Plagiarism Threshold (Turnitin)

According to the UNESA graduation clearance guidelines, the similarity index of your thesis manuscript must not exceed 25%.

  • Students must submit a Certificate of Plagiarism & AI Clearance before registering for their final defense.
  • The certificate must be signed by the Advisor and approved by the Head of the Study Program (Koorprodi).

Researcher Biography Format

Required components of the author's curriculum vitae that must be placed on the final pages of the thesis.

1. Identity & Education History

  • Identity: Full name, place/date of birth, student ID (NIM), Study Program, Faculty, Surabaya State University, home address, email, and active WhatsApp number.
  • Education History: List chronologically from primary school (SD/MI), middle school (SMP/MTs), high school (SMA/MA/SMK), up to your current studies at UNESA.

2. Experience & Certification

  • Tracks (If Any): Organizational experience, research projects, publications, and history of training/workshops/seminars (presented in a table).
  • Photo & Signature: Provide space for the researcher's signature along with the date, and paste a formal photograph in the lower corner of the biography.

4 Layout Mistakes That Trigger Revisions

Avoid these small formatting issues to save time during final clearance reviews.

1

First-Page Pagination for Chapters

Placing the page number at the top right of the first page of a chapter. The first page containing "CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION" or similar must have its page number at the bottom center.

2

Manual Hanging Indents in Bibliography

Using spaces or tabs manually to indent the second line of references. Instead, use Microsoft Word's hanging indent setting (0.75-1.25 cm) for a clean format.

3

Mismatched Citations & Bibliography

Having in-text citations that are not listed in the bibliography, or vice versa. We recommend using reference managers like Mendeley or Zotero.

4

Table Cutoffs Across Pages

Splitting a table onto a second page without duplicating the header row ("repeat header rows"). This makes data difficult for reviewers to comprehend.
